Legal Assistance Hotline Service Agreement

The Legal Assistance Hotline helps low-income people with certain types of civil legal questions through an advice hotline staffed by volunteer attorneys. The Hotline operates consistent with Rule 6.5 of the Indiana Rules of Professional Conduct for Nonprofit and Court-Annexed Limited Legal Services Programs. Pro Bono Indiana provides the professional liability insurance for the volunteer attorneys. In addition to meeting any required eligibility standards for the Hotline, participants must initial the acknowledgments below:

1. The Hotline Will Not Be Your Lawyer
a. I understand that the Hotline attorney cannot serve as my lawyer and that no one associated with the Hotline represents me or any of my interests in my case.
b. The attorney-client relationship between the Hotline and me will only exist during the short period of brief service I receive from the Hotline.
c. I understand that no one from the Hotline will go with me to Court.
d. I understand that any information that I may get is not a substitute for personalized legal advice and that it is always good to hire a lawyer before going forward on my own.

2. The Hotline Cannot Offer Complete Confidentiality or Conflict Protection
a. I understand that what I say to the Hotline staff and volunteers is not confidential in the same way it might be in other legal settings. While my information will be kept in confidence by any volunteer attorney, I understand that I have to get my own attorney if I want personalized advice or to have a confidential conversation.

3. A post call survey is required
a. I agree to complete the post call survey and understand that if I fail to do so, I will no longer be eligible to use the Hotline for future assistance.
